Prof Francesco Costa was born in Milan the 15 January 1977. Graduated at the Medical School of the “Università degli Studi di Milano” in 2002 and he obtained the specialization in Neurosurgery in 2007 with full remarks in the same University. He obtained the European Spine Diploma in 2011. 
Actually he works as Deputy Chair of Spine Surgery Unit (NCH4) of the Department of Neurosurgery of Fondazione IRCCS Istituto Neurologico Carlo Besta in Milan. He worked as deputy Chair of Spine Oncology Section in the Department of Neurosurgery of Humanitas Clinical and Research Center till November 2021. He works mainly in the spine surgery field, performing more than 7000 spine procedures for degenerative, traumatic and oncologic pathologies. In the latest years particular effort is applied in spine oncological surgery, complex spine surgery and cervical procedures.
He covered the role of Associate Professor in Neurosurgery at Humanitas University and actually is Professor in the neurosurgical residenship program of the “Università degli Studi di Milano”, as well for international neurosurgeons in the Complex Spine Surgery Fellowship for WFNS. 
He is an active member of North American Spine Society (NASS), Eurospine, AOSpine and Italian Neurosurgical Society (SINch). He is Consulting Editor for the spine surgery section of Journal of Neurosurgical Sciences, and associate reviewer of The Spine Journal and Eurospine Journal. 
Actually he is the Co-Chair of Education and Training Committee (Europe Zone) of WFNS and covered the role of vice-chair and chair of WFNS Spine Committee from November 2021 to December 2025. He is also Chair of Spine Section of Italian Society of Neurosurgery (SINch) since 2024.
Participation as speaker and invited speakers in several national and international meetings. He is author of more than 120 articles published in International Journals and author or co-author of 15 books chapters. He participates and collaborates with different Institution and University for research program, obtaining national and international grants.
